Bookfair

Just went to the Bookfair at Suntec. Smaller as compared with prievous years. Most of the local vendors there are selling assessment books. Bookfair vendors are still trying to burden childrens with assessments. This time I don't see much comics on sale. The english type. I found some Archies, thats it. I don't even see MPH setting a stall there. So boring. In term of books, the chinese language books are more variety. English stalls are no good. Some of them seems to come from those Bras Besar Complex stores. The rest are hawking their multimedia stuffs. How is IT wares being tie to books?

Supernova in space

A supernova was captured by scientists observing some stars. A supernova is an explosion of a star. While not really able to watch the star explode, it was the x-rays given out that gave clues of an explosion. The star belongs to a distant galaxy NGC2770. A miracle we could even peek out that far into the void. If you are interested in this article here is the link. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/TECH/space/05/21/star.explosion.ap/index.html#cnnSTCText

Probe lands on Mars

NASA's Phoenix spacecraft have landed on Mars in search for life. After the Mars rovers now they sent another probe to Mars. While Mars is as good as any other worlds in space for exploration, I think NASA should be doing more than sending probes after probes. In my opinion, Martian life doesn't seems to exist like those superior monsters found in books and flims. When will they spend more on trying to get men into space? As far as I think, sending of probes belongs to the 70s and 80s. It is time to have something that we always see in movies like Star Trek, where space travel is like taking a cruise.

overworked japan

An article that Toyota in Japan only raise their OT pay when an overworked staff died. So it seems someone have to die to get the attention of the people. Is the competition so bad that there is no time for rest? It just isn't worth it. You earn all the OT pay and you don't have the health to enjoy them.

Smelly river

At Singapore River, Robertson Quay area have become smelly. Reason given by PUB that residues left in the river were the cause. That shows how bad pollution is still happening in Singapore. The residue were removed by PUB by is that enough to prevent it happening again?

MS re-enter talks with Yahoo

MS is back with the Yahoo bid. According to CNET news, MS have no intention to buy up the whole Yahoo. Just partial of it. So if it does happen, depending of what they are buying could make of break Yahoo or MS or even both. Most like MS will be eyeing of their search engine.

Battlestar Galactica on TV

The show is finally coming to local TV. There was mixed review when it was shown elsewhere on the globe. I am a fan of the classic so I will reserve comment until I watch it. Somehow I don't like the clothes the civilains wear. If that is not Earth they shouldn't be wearing Earth style clothings....

MS shopping the internet

So now that Microsoft couldn't purchase Yahoo, they are setting their target to Facebook? Would purchasing Facebook be any better than buying Yahoo? Other than getting advertising and user's detail I don't see any features useful to Microsoft.

Movie Review

龍虎門 or Dragon Tiger Gate is a hongkong show of action. Translated from a popular comic of the same title. It stars action star Donnie Yen and teen idol Nicholas Tse. They fought real on the set and was reported no insurance company willing to insure. Can watch the fight but not for the story.

Movie Review

I watched Iron Man today. I find the show more enjoyable than any other comic movies. The show kind of stick to the comic origin. However the villain isn't that amazing. To be fighting a evil clone of the hero seems to be happening alot in comics.

Olympic madness

The super question like everyone else on the recent Olympic torch passing, why isn't it passing through to Singapore? The route from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta, why can't they pass through Singapore since Singapore lies right in the middle of the route? Here is a reply on May 2nd of the Straits Times forum section. The reply explains that Beijing Organising Committee decides on the route. Seems to me some elements of unfairness occurs here. Isn't it common sense to let the torch pass through Singapore to Jakarta? With Singapore fully support China and the Olympic games it is BS with whatever reasons to leave out Singapore. Is it because no one willing to run from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore or not willing to put in cost for the plane to fly here? I guess the readers will be the judge for this.
